Downtown Toronto Masjid Needs your Help!

assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

As an employee working downtown Toronto, I cannot emphasize how important Masjid Toronto is to all working in the Downtown Core. Out of all the hussle and bussle of busy corporate life, Muslims get tranquility in attending Salah and coming back to reality after the deception of Duniyah.

Other than Masjid Toronto, around the Financial District and near Union Station there wasn't really a Masjid, so Masjid Toronto decided to take initiative and open up another Masjid near the Adelaide and Church Area (Masjid Toronto #2). This place is in need of funds and what better opportunity for us to try and help out inshaaAllah.

Believe me, working beside Union Station, we prayed in a Parking Lots which got shut down and others pray in several pockets which once fire and safety regulations are crossed they stop allowing congregational Salah. Majority walk it or subway it to Masjid Toronto during Jumma'. They need 3 Salahs to accomodate all that attend. So it would be nice to have another location in such a busy area. This is also great for da'wa purposes as well.

Let us try and help out and Allah will help us. Check out these Ayaahs and Ahadith inshaaAllah for motivation.

Click the link below for donating inshaaAllah and please forward this to others so you can benefit and they can benefit inshaaAllah.
Remember that it could also be Ongoing Charity Sadaqa Jaariyah inshaaAllah

Allah says in the Qur'an: “Those who spend their wealth (in Allah's Cause) by night and day, in secret and in public, shall have their reward from their Lord. There shall be no fear nor grieve for them.” (2:274)
Allah says in the Qur'an: “O you who believe! Spend from the good things which you have (legally) earned, and of what We have produced from the earth for you.” (2:267).

The Prophet (sallalahu alayhi wa salam) said: “If anyone gives a charity equal to a date from his legally earned wealth- for nothing ascends to Allah except good - Allah takes it in His Right (Hand) and raises it for its owner as one of you raises a baby horse, until it becomes like a mountain.” (Bukhari, Muslim, and others)

Furthermore the Prophet (saw) mentioned that on the Day of Resurrection the believers will be shaded under their sadaqah (Ahmed) and he (saw) also stated that sadaqah extinguishes sins as water extinguishes fire (Ahmed, Tirmidhi, ibn Majah)

“O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the Zaalimoon (wrongdoers)” [al-Baqarah 2:254]

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“There is no day on which the people get up but two angels come down and one of them says, ‘O Allaah, give in compensation to the one who spends (in charity),’and the other says, ‘O Allaah, destroy the one who withholds.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1374; Muslim, 1010

Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge and a righteous son who will pray for him.” Narrated by Muslim, 3084.

Ibn Maajah (224) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge which he learned and then spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur’aan that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah.

Assess and Repent‏

Assess and Repent‏

A believer will always be critical of himself in his food, his drink and his speech. A sinner will not criticize himself. - Al-Hasan Al-Basree (Rahimullah)

Abû Hurayrah relates that Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak a good word or remain silent. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his guest.” [ Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim ]

Allah says: “O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak a word that is right. He will set right for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great achievement.” [ Sûrah al-Ahzâb : 70-71]

He says: “No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right, or bring reconciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking Allah's pleasure, then we shall grant him a great reward.” [ Sûrah al-Nisâ' : 114]

“He does not utter a statement except that there is an observer by him ready to record it.” [ Sûrah Qâf : 18]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed a servant will speak a word pleasing to Allah that he thinks to be insignificant, but because of it Allah raises him by many degrees. And indeed a servant will speak a word displeasing to Allah that he thinks to be insignificant, but because of it, He will consign him to the Hellfire.” [ Sahîh al-Bukhârî ]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “A man might speak a word without thinking about its implications, but because of it, he will plunge into the Hellfire further than the distance between the east and west.” [ Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim ]

Al-Nawawî comments on the meaning of this hadith, saying: “This hadith encourages us to guard our tongues. A person who wants to speak should think upon what he is about to say before he utters it. If it then shows itself to have some benefit to it, he may speak it; otherwise he should refrain from doing so.”

This is a reminder for myself before others, a reminder to assess ourselves and repent. InshaaAllah this will be a motivation for us to make extra dua` and istigfaar as we all fall short at times with our tongues whether we recognize it or not. May Allah forgive us for our sins. Aameen. Forward to benefit others inshaa Allah.

Truth and Lying

[Taken from Gems and Jewels page 26 - Dar Us Salam Publications]

Allaah (the exalted) says in the noble Qu’ran about the basic qualities of the believer:
“O you who believe” Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is with Allah that you say that which you do not do” (Qu’ran) 61:2,3)

The Prophet (salallalahu alayhi wassalaam) was asked, “Can a believer be a miser?” He said, ‘Yes.” He was asked, “Can a believer be a coward?” He said, “Yes.” And he was asked, “And can a believer be A LIAR?” He said, “NO.”

It has been related that a man went to Allah’s Messenger and said, “O Messenger of Allah, indeed I do three sins in secret: (I drink) alcohol, fornication and lying. So inform me which of them should I abandon?.” He said, “LEAVE OF LYING.” The man went away, and later desired to fornicate, but he thought to himself, “I will go to the Messenger of Allaah and he will ask me whether I fornicated? If I say yes, he will punish me. And if I say no, I will have broken the covenant and lied.” So he abstained from fornicating , and the same occured regarding alcohol. He returned to Allaah’s Messenger and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, indeed I have abandoned all of them.”

My brother, you do not see then, that LYING is the root of every wicked deed, and it leads to all other sins. You will not see anyone more miserable and wretched than the liar, and disbelief is the most severe kind of lying, for it is lying upon Allaah (the Exalted).

Thats to Salty!

assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

While we like to complain about the salt in our food, no ketchup in the burger, slightly burnt parathas and about which Masajid offers the best Iftaars, there are people looking for the most basic necessity in life, water.

We get irritated by a long line up (only 5 people ahead of us) at Walmart with a shopping cart full of food, imagine lining up holding onto your child who is depending on that empty bowl, which you are hoping to fill with a few morsels of food and drops of water.

Check out these amazing photos to present to you the current condition in East Africa:

2. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/08/the_horn_of_africa_dadaab_refu.html

Take advantage of the last few days of Ramadaan by donating, making dua' etc. In one halaqa a student from Madinah was mentioning that the trail of having wealth is usually a greater trail than not having wealth. I wonder if people in East Africa are being tried in a greater manner or us through our hardened, stained and greedy hearts.

Hope this is a motivation to help out inshaa Allah,

Anas (Radhi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam) say:
"Allah the Almighty said: O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it."

Mercy Towards Others

Taken from Book of Manners - Imam Bukhari

This should be a motivation to have Mercy towards others,

Jarir reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah will not show mercy to a person who does not show mercy to other people."

'Umar was heard to say, "Anyone who does not show mercy will not be shown mercy. Anyone who does not forgive will not be forgiven. Anyone who does not turn in repentance will not be turned to nor will he be protected or guarded."

Mu'awiya ibn Qurra reported that his father said, "A man said, 'Messenger of Allah, I was going to slaughter a sheep (for eating) and then I felt sorry for it (or 'sorry for the sheep I was going to slaughter').' He said twice, 'Since you showed mercy to the sheep, Allah will show mercy to you.'"

Abu Hurayra said, "A man came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with a child which he began to embrace. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said. 'Do you show mercy towards me?' 'Yes,' the man replied. He said, 'Allah is more merciful towards you than you are towards this child. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "One day a man became very thirsty while walking down the road. He came across a well, went down into it, and drank and then climbed out. In front of him he found a dog panting, eating the dust out of thirst. The man said, 'This dog is as thirsty as I was.' He went back down into the well and filled his show, putting it into his mouth (in order to climb back up) and then gave the dog water. Therefore Allah thanked him and forgave him." They said, "Messenger of Allah, will we have a reward on account of animals?" He said, "There is a reward on account of every living thing."

'Abdullah ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "A woman punished her cat by imprisoning it until it died of hunger and because of it, she entered the Fire. It was said and Allah knows best: 'You did not feed it nor give it water when you imprisoned it nor did you release it and let it eat from the plants of the earth."

Abu Umama that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who shows mercy, even to an animal meant for slaughtering, will be shown mercy by Allah on the Day of Rising."

'Abdullah reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stopped in a place and then someone took a bird's eggs and the bird began to beat its wings around the head of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He asked, "Which of you has taken its eggs?" A man said, "Messenger of Allah, I have taken its eggs." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Return them out off mercy to the bird."
